Re-opening The City School Campuses: A Message from the Interim Head of School
Click here to watch a brief message from Mr. Joel Gaines, Interim Head of School as he shares information about our most recent thoughts and plans around re-opening campus.
Dear City School Families,
We are grateful for the privilege of partnering with you. Thank you re-enrolled families for responding to the survey. Welcome newly enrolled families; we are excited you have joined The City School. We remain focused on the most important things — prayer, planning and partnering with you, and we were blessed to see your like-minded responses. It is clear to us that we are moving forward — TOGETHER.
We are grateful to be connected to local, state, national and international educators in christian, private and public schools of all sizes. We appreciate the abundance of information available to us through educational partners. We continue to listen to the most current information including specific state and local guidance about reopening.
Our Task Force and Education Committee are researching and planning for what safe, rigorous learning will look like in September; they have access to all your survey responses, including a summary. Concerning your advice, comments and questions, each is being considered. Fifty percent of re-enrolled students were represented in the survey responses. Again, we appreciate your thoughtful feedback. The overwhelming majority of responses concerned health, safety and academic excellence. Those align with our main areas of focus. We are also remaining sensitive to the shalom of your family and practical issues such as transportation.
At this time, we are planning and engaging in professional development for teachers in four main areas: remote learning, social-emotional learning, cultural responsiveness and student safety. We are ever mindful of the need for transparent communication among all stakeholders. Essentially, we are seeking to provide the maximum on-campus time as safely possible while preparing to provide the best remote learning experience as we anticipate there may be times when some and/or all of us need to be at home, practicing shalom — TOGETHER.
Practically, we have already begun to establish new routines as we make provisions for safe school buildings. Our facilities crew is thoroughly cleaning all three campuses. We’re expecting to receive a grant for special cleaning devices and acrylic separators for desks and tables at the elementary campuses. We’re researching the best personal protective gear for adults and students. We’re installing hand sanitizing stations. We’re making our spaces ready.
We continue to strive towards a thriving community, an informed curriculum and intentional connectedness. Our commitment is to communicate our updates in mid-July. Please view our latest YouTube video update here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?
We’re seeking wisdom, first from heaven, and we covet your prayers.
Shalom,
Joel Gaines, Interim Head of School
