Uniform Guidelines (Spruce Hill and Fairmount Campuses)

Grades PreK-5

UNIFORM POLO SHIRT (EMBROIDERED)
Shirts for both young men and young ladies must be worn at all times, with or without a sweatshirt. Shirts must be white or royal blue. The short-sleeved and the long-sleeved shirts are both acceptable.

SHORTS & PANTS
Pants and shorts must be purchased from the approved vendors. Flynn & O’Hara is the official uniform vendor for The City School. Limited additional pant options are available in the uniform guide. Uniform pants are pleated
twill long gray pants and twill walking shorts. They must be worn with a black belt.

Pre-Kindergarten students may wear bottoms of their choice.

SKIRTS, SKORTS & JUMPERS (GIRLS ONLY)
Young ladies may wear the gray four kick pleated skirt (2 buttons) or skort. They may also wear the royal and gold plaid drop waist jumper over the short or long-sleeved polo shirt. The jumper may never be worn without the polo shirt.

Pre-Kindergarten students may wear bottoms of their choice.

BELTS
Plain black belts must be worn with the uniform pants. Belts do not need to be purchased from Flynn & O’Hara, but they must not be braided or have designs on them.

UNIFORM SWEATSHIRT (EMBROIDERED) – OPTIONAL
The royal blue uniform sweatshirt must be worn over the long short or long sleeved polo, never alone without the polo.

TURTLENECK – OPTIONAL
A plain white turtleneck may be worn for extra warmth under The City School long-sleeve polo shirt. It may never be worn under the sweatshirt without the long-sleeved polo. It may not be worn under the short-sleeved polo shirt. The turtleneck does not need to be purchased from Flynn & O’Hara.

SHOES
Two pairs of shoes will be required: (1) black dress shoes and (2) athletic shoes. The following guidelines must be followed when purchasing shoes: Shoes must have a closed heel and toe. Sandals and flip-flops are prohibited. Shoes may not have more than a one-inch heel. Athletic shoes must be worn on gym days. They must be plain, free from characters, lights, decorations.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION ATTIRE
To avoid losing instructional time students will not change for P.E. Students should wear their gym uniforms to school on gym days. Gym days will be announced at the beginning of the school year.

The following is the required gym uniform:

  • PHYSICAL EDUCATION UNIFORM
    Light grey t-shirt (with school silk screen)
    Royal blue sweatshirt – optional (embroidered)
    Royal blue shorts (with school silk screen)
    Royal blue sweatpants – optional
    Athletic shoes as described above (worn with socks)

JEWELRY
Jewelry must be modest and age appropriate. For safety reasons, students must not wear expensive or “dangling” jewelry. The City School will not be responsible for the loss or damage of jewelry. The following guidelines must be followed: Only “stud” style earrings are permitted. Earrings must not extend below the earlobe. Other visible body piercing is not allowed. Jewelry must be modest and complement the student’s uniform.

SWEATERS & JACKETS
Students may wear their own jackets to and from school and outdoors. Jackets, coats, sweaters, or non-uniform sweatshirts may not be worn in the classrooms. The uniform sweatshirt may be worn over the short or long sleeved polo shirt for extra warmth in school. The sweatshirt may not be worn without the polo shirt.
