Lower School / Fairmount / K to 5

Opened in the fall of 2015, The City School at Fairmount, became our second elementary campus, serving grades Pre-K(4)-1. In  the academic year 2019-20, after adding a grade each year we expanded to a Pre-K(4) through 5 elementary school with a capacity of 142 students.

After merging with the Spruce Hill Campus, the lower school at Fairmount is a K-5 elementary school. We are grateful to God for growth and look forward to more children flourishing at The City School.

Our curriculum is driven by a pursuit of excellence and grounded in a commitment to love and care for each student as an individual. As with our Spruce Hill elementary campus, we like to envision our Fairmount campus as a “college-preparatory elementary school.”Beginning with our youngest children, students are taught to love their lifelong pursuit of learning. Elementary students are creative, curious and inquisitive: we embrace their natural love for knowledge and help them understand learning in the context of a well-rounded Christian education. We embrace the responsive classroom philosophy, which emphasizes creating a safe, joyful and challenging learning environment. Because students learn most effectively through social interaction, we believe the social curriculum is as important as the academic curriculum and thus incorporate morning meetings, positive teacher language and a positive approach to student discipline. Our strong academic program is complemented by an innovative emphasis on the arts, and every subject is seen as an opportunity to explore how God works in our world. Small class sizes and nurturing teachers ensure each child is given the one-on-one attention they need to discover their academic potential.

I joined the TCS team because I believe in the mission of the school, and I know I am called to join in fulfilling that mission. I believe students learn best when they have a trusting relationship with the adults teaching them. Before coming on board at TCS I was employed with Delaware County’s Head Start program. I enjoy carpentry, crafting, and sports. I am married with four children and my favorite scripture is Jeremiah 29:11

I am a mother of two boys and a Philadelphia Native. I have been drawn to the City School since I attended an open house in 2018 with my oldest son, who is currently a student at the Poplar campus. When I saw the opportunity for an After Care Instructor, I jumped at it, hoping to be more involved with the great children that attend The City School.
