“I’m even more excited to be an activist of change now”

These are the words of one of our fourth graders after participating in Jazz4Freedom at the Kimmel Center.

The Kimmel CentersĀ  Jazz4Freedom is a grade specific program which showcases the link between Jazz and Black History in Pennsylvania and beyond. Third and fourth graders from The City School enjoyed celebrating the history of the fight for freedom, and the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through song, spoken word and dance. The program is fully interactive and culminates with leading children through a video call and response of “Oh Freedom” led by Yolanda King, granddaughter of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
